After I saw Chef's Table on Netflix, I became obsessed with Argentina. I don't know why, but seeing Francis Mallman cook in earth ovens in Patagonia captured my heart. I was curious to experience the culture and landscapes that I saw in the series. This was back when I was making food documentaries, so I told everyone I knew that I was taking my next vacation there.
Then I looked at my bank account.
I went to Vietnam that year instead. 😂

In order to plan a trip that fits your budget, first you need to choose a destination that's within your budget. If you're working with a SE Asia budget, don't buy a flight deal to Iceland.

Before you jump the gun and finalize your destination, consider your "why" for this trip. Are you seeking time in nature? Exploring culture and good food? A relaxing beach vacation? There's destinations at every price point in each of these categories. Again, if you know the budget you're working with, don't buy tickets to the Maldives when Puerto Vallarta would do.

Now that we've got that lesson under our belts, here's how to build the perfect itinerary for your budget.
